Covering the food scene in the San Gabriel Valley.

Curry House is one of my favorite restaurants to take friends that need to be eased into trying more Asian foods. It’s the perfect medium for Asian food lovers and those that want to be inducted into eating Asian foods. It’s not too “exotic” but it’s a world of flavor that everyone can appreciate as something different and new.

Curry House is a Japanese chain restaurant that began in the heart of downtown L.A.’s Little Tokyo but lucky for us, its Monterey Park location recently opened in the Atlantic Times Square Plaza.

My favorite dish to order at Curry House is their any of their array of grilled stone rice curries. For $15.50, the stone curries are served with either soup or salad. Here’s a tip: get the soup! The soup is a really creamy cream of corn. Seriously! Don’t miss out!

I’ve tried all the stone curries and I usually like to get the eel, but there’s a choice of rib eye steak, different variations of katsu, or seafood as well.

The curry sauce served at Curry House is made from 30 different spices and vegetables and they are cooked until they are disintegrated into the sauce. You also have a choice of having a raw egg cracked into your curry, which subsequently cooks itself into the rice for a delicious and hearty explosion of flavors. And don’t worry if you are not good with hot food because their curry is not spicy. Order a medium spicy if you just want a light tang to it. You’re eating here for the flavor and not the spiciness.

Japanese-style curry is really different from traditional Indian curry. It much thicker and gravy-like in consistency. So, if you’re not a fan or rice, try out their curry soup udon in stone pot for $11.25. Chicken and vegetable curry soup with the Japanese wheat noodles. Yum!

Overall, Curry House is just a fun and tasty restaurant to eat at to spice up your normal routine in the 626. Their ice green tea is really good and refreshing as well. They also have 10 locations all over California, even in NorCal so check it out sometime!

There’s also a special deal going on now!
