Taiwanese café and dessert shop Milk and Honey is expanding with a new restaurant opening in San Gabriel today, Friday, Sept. 7. The eatery, which is based in Artesia, recently celebrated their one-year anniversary in August.
“We want this to be a place for youths to come,” manager Candace Wu told Squid Ink. “I never tried making drinks and desserts so I researched them and developed really quirky dishes. I wanted them to be both rare and aesthetically pleasing. I like to experiment with different jams and color variations.” Her bingsa, a flavored shaved ice dessert, is topped with a dark purple hue while the bottom remains a retains a faint lavender color.
Wu, who hails from Taiwan, started the business with little experience in tea-making and desserts. “I really want my desserts to be pretty. For example, we’ll make an ice cream and top it off with a little dog or a Doraemon character,” she said.
Although the menu at the Artesia and San Gabriel locations will, for the most part, remain the same, there are a few differences. For one, there won’t be waffles at the San Gabriel location — they’re going to be replaced with crepes.
The store hours are from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., and the San Gabriel restaurant will be running at 10% off promotion for a week starting Friday.
